Janko de Beer

Janko de Beer, born in 1980 in Pretoria, South Africa, before making his home in Cape Town in 1997, currently resides in Somerset West with his wife and two children.

Having graduated from Pro Arte Alphen Park, a renowned art school in Pretoria, Janko was exposed to a myriad of artistic forms. Despite choosing to pursue a career in law post-graduation, practicing as an advocate for over a decade, his passion for art remained unwavering, a constant creative undercurrent in his life.

An avid lover of nature, Janko finds solace and inspiration in the ocean, mountains, and bush, often immersing himself in outdoor pursuits like hiking and surfing. His artistic process invariably begins amidst the natural world, where he believes fresh experiences foster innovative creativity.

Janko's artistic journey has seen him participate in numerous group exhibitions, culminating in his inaugural solo show at Long Street Gallery in 2010. In 2016, he made the bold decision to fully dedicate himself to art, relinquishing his legal career to pursue his passion wholeheartedly.

A two-time finalist for the Global Art Award, Janko's work has garnered international recognition, showcased in a multitude of solo and group exhibitions. Preferring to eschew trends and critical acclaim, he embraces the organic flow of his creative process, believing that creating from a place of personal authenticity yields work that resonates with others.

In his sculptures, Janko employs found objects such as kelp, coral, wood, scrap metal, and bones, blending unconventional elements with traditional sculpting techniques. His mixed-media paintings, rendered on canvas and archival paper, are also available as limited, personalized Giclée fine art prints, further extending the reach of his artistic vision.
